Water For Youngsville Subdivision Turned Off Due To Major Leak

Water for Beau Parterre subdivision right outside of the City of Youngsville had to be turned off Friday morning because of a major underground water leak.

Magnolia Water utility dispatched a contractor to make the emergency water leak repair under a sidewalk in the 200 block of Fern Hollow and a boil advisory for the subdivision was subsequently issued.

In plumbing parlance, a saddle fitting on the main 6-inch water line that is connected to a water meter and supplies water to a home, broke. A bolt holding the saddle together wasn’t fully connected when originally installed and finally after umpteen years the bolt sheered in half and broke due to vibrations in the water system.

The saddle became dislodged and the water leak occurred.

The contractor dug up the sidewalk and Lafayette Winwater supplied a new saddle fitting. The workers quickly installed the new saddle and turned the water back on to the neighborhood.

Residents experienced a bit of air coming out of their faucets when they turned their water on, but otherwise had no ill effects. One resident did complain about having dirty water.
